Have you been asking yourself, ‘What next?’ lately? Everyone keeps saying that blogs are supposed to be new, fresh and creative. But the real challenge lies in finding new blogging ideas and topics every single day! While most of us spend our time desperately searching for interesting topics and ideas, there are times when even the most popular and creative blogger gets to the point when they think, ‘I don’t have anything to write anymore.’ Are you on the same boat? so have many bloggers before you.
It’s not a great place to be, believe me, but it’s better to know that there is a way out of this ‘ideas inertia.’
1. Make use of forum discussions:
There are a number of forums on the Internet these days where hundreds of questions are being asked every day. Forums are a great source of information for many and for a blogger they are just the perfect place to find ideas for their blogs.
2. Build an idea from reader comments:
Invest time in reading comments to your blog posts. These comments will contain questions, suggestions and requests for more information. If you think that the answers to these comments can be converted in to a really good blog post, then why not take time out and write one.
3. Tell a story:
Everyone likes a good story and if you are able to make yours interesting and informational, the better. You can make use of your personal experiences and build it into a nice long blog that will, hopefully, inspire and educate your readers.
4. Lists, reviews, how to and tips:
People love lists and the longer the better. Add a number to everything you write, from Top 5 List to Best 3 Tips, everything will bring in traffic. Review, tips and tricks and ‘How to’ topics are few of the ‘never fail’ ideas.
5. Talk about what’s trending:
Local newspapers and magazines provide great ideas for content generation. As most of the topics discussed in newspapers and online magazines are current and trending, readers are sure to find these blogs interesting.
6. Ask a question or start a debate:
It’s time to turn the tables around and ask questions to your readers. This will generate a flurry of comments and more ideas for future blog posts.
7. Step out of the box!
We are all prisoners of familiarity, and we find stepping out of our comfort zone to be slightly disturbing. And that’s precisely why we should do it every once in a while. You can try entering a genre that you have never tried. If you are a technology blogger, try writing something about fashion and food for a change!
8. Retell an old story, from a new perspective!
Yes, this is old wine in a fresh and new bottle. But this will work wonders if you present it well. Approach your old relevant articles from a different perspective. This will give you new ideas for content generation.
9. Start a tutorial:
Nothing wins like education and inspiration. We’ll come to inspiration in a bit, but when you teach your readers some new concept, they’ll come flocking to your blog. Find your niche and start an easy-to-understand tutorial, this will bring in more topics for future as well.
10. Finally inspire
Yes, to be inspired (that’s what we are talking about all this while!) is a good thing and to be an inspiration is greater. Write a blog post about something that inspires you. You’ll be surprised to know how many readers would find it inspiring to them as well. From inspiring your readers to read books to helping them knit well, you can write about anything you are passionate about.
While these points will serve as a guide to idea generation, remember that if whatever you write doesn’t satisfy you, it probably won’t satisfy your readers as well. And finally, move away from your desk, look around, there’s a world out there waiting to be written about.
